lrzip is a compression utility that uses long-range redundancy reduction to improve the subsequent compression ratio of larger files. Snappy is a compression/decompression library. It does not aim for maximum compression, or compatibility with any other compression library; instead, it aims for very high speeds and reasonable compression. The main command is aunpack which extracts files from an archive. Blosc is a high performance compressor optimized for binary data. Miniz is a lossless data compression library that implements the zlib (RFC 1950) and Deflate (RFC 1951) compressed data format specification standards. It supports the most commonly used functions exported by the zlib library.

GNU sharutils is a package for creating and manipulating shell archives that can be readily emailed. A shell archive is a file that can be processed by a Bourne-type shell to unpack the original collection of files. This package is mostly for compatibility and historical interest.
